Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
Nearly every two minutes, someone dies of sudden cardiac arrest. Automated External Defibrillation could save a quarter of these lives. AED devices are showing up everywhere from industrial settings to shopping malls. This course makes it easy for anyone to learn to use an AED. |
|
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a device that
is used to determine the rhythm of a person’s heart and then, if necessary,
administer an electric shock to victims of sudden cardiac arrest in hopes of
restoring a normal heart rhythm. The
small and lightweight machine has built-in computers with audio and visual
prompts that guide users through the process.
A victim of sudden cardiac arrest has the best chance to
survive if they are revived within four minutes. Unfortunately, chances of survival decrease
between 7 to 10 percent each minute they do not receive defibrillation. Defibrillation Information AED Programs Q & A AED Implementation Guide
